Mission Statement

The San Fernando Valley Young Democrats shall endeavor to stimulate in young people an active interest in governmental affairs, increase the efficiency of our government, maintain the viability of our free institutions, and contribute to the growth and influence of the ideals and philosophy of the Democratic Party.

Purpose

Founded in 1994 by young activists including Alex Padilla, now California Secretary of State, and Stuart Waldman, now VICA President, the San Fernando Valley Young Democrats today serves as the premiere Democratic organization for young professionals in the San Fernando Valley. Through promoting activism in state and local politics, SFVYD advocates for the core principles of the Democratic Party while providing opportunities to meet new people and establish meaningful contacts in the political community.

History

Twenty-seven years ago, the San Fernando Valley Young Democrats were founded to support young Democratic activist in the San Fernando Valley. Out of the election of President Clinton in ’92, a small group of young politically active professionals came together to volunteer on campaigns in the Valley and provide a social outlet for hard-working activists to meet like-minded people.

Today SFVYD has grown into a vibrant club with a full calendar of diverse programming. Young professionals in government and other sectors meet after long workdays to discuss current events, organize with political campaigns, and identify ways to increase the presence of young Democrats in the San Fernando Valley. During our short history, SFVYD has produced a number of elected officials, organizational leaders, and numerous legislative staffers throughout Los Angeles.
